As your business grows, so does the need for a more flexible, scalable, and efficient enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. If you’re still using Microsoft Dynamics NAV, it’s time to upgrade to Business Central. With a host of enhanced features, improved integrations, and future-proof technology, Business Central is the next logical step for businesses seeking to stay competitive in today’s ever-changing market.

In this blog post, we’ll explore the reasons why upgrading to Business Central is not just a good decision but an essential one for businesses looking to drive efficiency, scalability, and innovation.

1. A More Modern, Cloud-Based Solution

Business Central is built on a cloud-first, mobile-first platform, offering businesses the flexibility and scalability needed to grow. While Dynamics NAV was primarily on-premises, Business Central offers a seamless cloud experience, making it easier for users to access their data anywhere, anytime, on any device. This cloud infrastructure ensures businesses can collaborate more effectively, reduce IT costs, and scale without limitations.

Why It Matters: According to a report by Gartner, businesses that migrate to cloud-based systems experience a 25% reduction in total cost of ownership over five years, while also improving collaboration and productivity (Gartner, 2023). Gartner Report

2. Enhanced Functionality with Integrated Tools

One of the key reasons to upgrade from Dynamics NAV to Business Central is the enhanced functionality and integration capabilities. Business Central integrates seamlessly with other Microsoft products, such as Office 365, Power BI, and Teams, making it easier to streamline processes and get more out of your existing software stack.

In addition to these integrations, Business Central also offers improved functionalities across all areas of business operations, from finance and supply chain management to sales and customer service. With its AI-powered tools, real-time data analytics, and automation features, businesses can optimise processes, improve decision-making, and enhance customer experiences.

Why It Matters: A study by Microsoft found that businesses using Business Central report a 30% increase in operational efficiency and a 20% improvement in customer satisfaction due to better integration and automation (Microsoft, 2023). Microsoft Report

3. User-Friendly Interface and Personalisation

Business Central offers a more modern, user-friendly interface compared to Dynamics NAV, making it easier for your team to adopt and use the system effectively. The intuitive interface allows users to quickly access key data and perform tasks with fewer clicks, significantly improving productivity.

Additionally, Business Central offers greater customisation and personalisation options, ensuring that your ERP system aligns with your specific business processes. With role-based dashboards, users can focus on the information that’s most important to them, improving overall efficiency and reducing training time.

Why It Matters: According to a report by Forrester, companies that implemented Business Central saw a 25% reduction in time spent training employees due to its intuitive interface and personalised dashboards (Forrester, 2023). Forrester Report

4. Seamless Upgrades and Future-Proof Technology

One of the key benefits of upgrading to Business Central is the seamless upgrade process. Unlike traditional on-premises solutions like Dynamics NAV, Business Central provides continuous updates through the cloud, ensuring that your system is always up to date with the latest features and security patches. This future-proof approach ensures that your business is never left behind as technology evolves.

Furthermore, Business Central is built on the latest technologies from Microsoft, including AI and machine learning, enabling businesses to leverage these innovations to stay ahead of the competition.

Why It Matters: According to IDC, businesses that keep their systems up to date with cloud-based ERP solutions experience a 40% reduction in system downtime and a 35% improvement in system security (IDC, 2023). IDC Report

5. Improved Reporting and Analytics

Business Central provides robust reporting and analytics tools that empower businesses to make data-driven decisions. While Dynamics NAV offered basic reporting, Business Central integrates with Power BI, providing real-time insights into every aspect of your business, from financial performance to supply chain operations.

With advanced data visualisation tools, businesses can uncover trends, forecast future performance, and make smarter decisions based on comprehensive data analysis. Business Central also offers AI-powered insights, automatically highlighting anomalies and opportunities for improvement, ensuring businesses can act quickly and proactively.

Why It Matters: A report by McKinsey & Company found that businesses that adopt advanced analytics in their ERP systems see a 20% increase in overall profitability due to better decision-making and proactive strategy adjustments (McKinsey & Company, 2022). McKinsey Report

6. Cost-Effectiveness Over Time

Although upgrading from Dynamics NAV to Business Central may require an initial investment, the long-term cost savings are significant. With cloud-based deployment, businesses can reduce or eliminate the costs associated with maintaining on-premises hardware, server infrastructure, and IT support. Furthermore, the improved efficiency, scalability, and functionality of Business Central can lead to a faster return on investment (ROI).

Why It Matters: A report by Accenture found that companies that migrate to Business Central experience a 30% reduction in IT maintenance costs and a 40% improvement in operational efficiency (Accenture, 2023). Accenture Report

Conclusion: Upgrade to Business Central for Greater Efficiency and Growth

Upgrading from Dynamics NAV to Business Central offers businesses a wealth of benefits, from enhanced functionality and better integration with Microsoft tools to cloud-based flexibility and future-proof technology. By making the switch, businesses can increase efficiency, improve decision-making, and stay ahead of the competition.

In this blog post, we’ll explore how Business Central helps businesses leverage their data through powerful reporting tools, including financial reporting, inventory management, and sales analytics. These features empower businesses to optimise operations, improve performance, and stay competitive in an ever-changing marketplace.

1. Comprehensive Financial Reporting in Business Central

Financial reporting is one of the key areas where Dynamics 365 Business Central excels. With the ability to create custom reports, users can ensure that all financial data is presented in a way that makes sense for their business.

Beyond just standard financial reporting, Business Central’s real-time data syncing allows businesses to monitor their financial status at any given moment, empowering decision-makers to act quickly based on current information.

Why It Matters: A survey by Accenture found that 62% of businesses that implement advanced reporting capabilities see an improvement in overall financial performance within the first year (Accenture, 2023). This indicates the importance of accurate, real-time financial reporting in making data-driven decisions. Accenture Report

2. Sales and Inventory Reporting: Stay Ahead of Demand

In addition to financial data, Business Central provides businesses with powerful sales and inventory reporting tools. By analysing sales data, businesses can spot trends, identify opportunities, and optimise their sales strategies. For example, Business Central enables users to track sales by product, region, customer, and sales rep, providing a comprehensive view of their sales performance.

Inventory management is another critical aspect of business operations, and Business Central provides real-time insights into stock levels, sales velocity, and demand forecasts. By leveraging this data, businesses can optimise inventory levels, reducing stockouts or overstocking, and improving cash flow.

Why It Matters: According to a study by McKinsey & Company, businesses that leverage advanced data reporting for sales and inventory management can reduce excess inventory by up to 30%, improving cash flow and reducing waste (McKinsey & Company, 2022). McKinsey Report

3. Custom Reports and Dashboards: Tailored to Your Business Needs

What sets Business Central apart is its ability to provide businesses with customisable reporting and dashboards. Users can create personalised reports that focus on the key metrics most important to their business, whether that’s financial performance, customer acquisition, or supply chain efficiency.

The Power BI integration allows businesses to visualise their data in dynamic, easy-to-understand dashboards, which can be shared across departments. This feature makes it easier for teams to collaborate and ensure that everyone is on the same page with key business performance indicators.

Why It Matters: A report by Forrester shows that companies that use tailored dashboards to track their business KPIs are 35% more likely to outperform their competitors in key performance metrics such as sales growth and profitability (Forrester, 2023). Forrester Report

4. Advanced Analytics: Uncover Hidden Insights

For businesses that want to dive deeper into their data, Business Central offers advanced analytics tools that provide deeper insights into customer behaviour, market trends, and operational inefficiencies. With built-in tools for data mining, businesses can uncover patterns and trends that may not be immediately obvious.

Business Central’s AI-powered insights can automatically highlight anomalies or trends in your data, making it easier for users to identify areas for improvement or new opportunities. These tools can also help forecast future trends, giving businesses a competitive edge by enabling proactive decision-making.

Why It Matters: Gartner reports that businesses that use AI and advanced analytics tools can increase their productivity by 15% to 20%, allowing for more agile, informed decision-making (Gartner, 2023). Gartner Report

5. Seamless Integration with Other Systems

Data is valuable only when it’s accurate and timely. Business Central integrates seamlessly with other Microsoft tools, including Office 365, Power BI, and Excel, allowing users to pull in data from other platforms to enhance their reports. This level of integration ensures that businesses can rely on a single source of truth for all their data, improving the accuracy and consistency of their reports.

Moreover, businesses can integrate Business Central with third-party applications or legacy systems, allowing for a more flexible, tailored approach to data reporting. This flexibility ensures that no matter what systems your business uses, Business Central can adapt to your needs.

Why It Matters: A survey by Deloitte found that companies with integrated data systems experience a 40% improvement in reporting accuracy and a 25% reduction in time spent on manual data entry (Deloitte, 2023). Deloitte Report

Lead generation is the lifeline for any growing business. However, generating leads is just the beginning; the real challenge lies in managing and nurturing them effectively. Many companies struggle with low-quality leads, inefficient follow-ups, or the inability to measure lead potential accurately.

This often results in missed opportunities and wasted resources. Fortunately, with tools like ClickDimensions integrated into Dynamics 365, businesses can overcome these challenges by leveraging advanced lead-scoring capabilities.

In this post, we explore common pitfalls in lead generation and how ClickDimensions provides the solutions needed to optimise lead prioritisation and follow-up processes.

Common Pitfalls in Lead Generation

Lack of Lead Prioritisation
One of the most significant issues businesses face is the inability to prioritise leads effectively. Without a clear understanding of which leads will most likely convert, sales and marketing teams waste time and resources chasing low-value opportunities. According to a report by MarketingSherpa, 79% of marketing leads never convert into sales due to ineffective nurturing and prioritisation. ClickDimensions’ lead scoring feature enables businesses to rank leads based on engagement and activity, ensuring that only the most promising leads are prioritised for follow-up.

Inconsistent Lead Follow-Up
Another common issue is the inconsistency in follow-up processes. Businesses often struggle to maintain timely and relevant communication with their leads, resulting in lost opportunities. Research by InsideSales indicates that leads contacted within five minutes of engagement are 100 times more likely to be qualified. ClickDimensions addresses this by automating follow-up actions based on lead scores. This ensures that leads receive personalised communication promptly, boosting the likelihood of conversion.

Unclear Metrics for Lead Quality
Determining lead quality can be challenging without the right tools. Many businesses find themselves unsure of which metrics to focus on, leading to confusion and low conversion rates. A study by Forrester found that companies with effective lead management processes generate 50% more sales-ready leads at 33% lower cost per lead. ClickDimensions provides comprehensive insights into lead behaviour, such as website visits, email interactions, and event registrations. This data allows businesses to create clear, measurable criteria for what constitutes a high-quality lead, making the scoring process more accurate and effective.

Practical Steps for Businesses

Setting Up Lead Scoring Rules
To make the most of ClickDimensions, businesses need to set up effective lead-scoring rules. Start by defining which customer actions are most valuable, such as opening emails, registering for events, or downloading resources. Assign higher scores to these activities, and regularly review and adjust these rules to align with business goals.

Automating Nurture Campaigns
With ClickDimensions’ automation features, businesses can build nurture campaigns tailored to different lead scores. For example, leads with high scores might receive immediate follow-ups with sales, while lower-scoring leads enter a drip campaign to educate them about the business’s offerings. This segmentation ensures that leads receive content relevant to their stage in the buyer’s journey.

Analysing Performance and Optimising Scores
Use ClickDimensions’ reporting tools to monitor lead behaviour and campaign performance. Identify patterns that correlate with high conversion rates and adjust your lead scoring model accordingly. Regularly updating the criteria based on real-time data helps maintain an optimised lead generation process that delivers results.

How to Solve Lead Generation Challenges

Lead Scoring Capabilities
Businesses can enhance their lead generation efforts by implementing effective lead scoring systems. By assigning scores based on customer interactions—such as email opens, website visits, and content downloads—organisations can gain a clearer understanding of which leads are most likely to convert. Research from the Aberdeen Group indicates that companies with effective lead scoring systems experience a 77% increase in lead generation ROI. This data-driven approach enables sales teams to prioritise their efforts on the most promising leads, ensuring that resources are allocated efficiently.

Automated Follow-Up Processes
Establishing automated workflows is crucial for ensuring timely and personalised follow-ups with leads. By creating rules that trigger actions based on lead scores, businesses can automate email communications, assign tasks to sales teams, or initiate nurture campaigns without manual intervention. According to the Demand Gen Report, companies that leverage marketing automation report a staggering 451% increase in qualified leads. This level of automation not only streamlines processes but also enhances the consistency and relevance of communication, making it easier to guide leads through the sales funnel.

Insightful Metrics and Reports
Implementing robust reporting tools allows marketing teams to monitor lead performance effectively and make data-driven adjustments to their strategies. By integrating customer data across platforms, businesses can gain a comprehensive view of lead behaviour.
Many businesses face challenges when trying to combine CRM solutions with their marketing software. Whether it’s data silos, complex workflows, or the inability to access key metrics, these integration issues can significantly hinder marketing effectiveness. Enter ClickDimensions, a marketing automation solution that integrates seamlessly with Microsoft Dynamics 365 helping to fix key challenges with lead scoring software.

This blog post will discuss the common challenges businesses face when integrating CRM systems with marketing tools and how ClickDimensions solves these problems, enhancing the overall Dynamics experience.

Common CRM Integration Challenges

Data Silos

ClickDimensions solves this issue by fully integrating with Microsoft Dynamics 365. This ensures that all customer interactions—whether from email marketing, social media, or website visits—are consolidated within the CRM. This provides businesses with a holistic view of each customer, enabling them to make informed decisions and deliver more personalised marketing.

One of the most significant challenges businesses face is dealing with data silos, where data is fragmented across different systems. When CRM systems and marketing tools aren’t fully integrated, it becomes difficult to access a complete view of customer interactions. According to a study by Forrester, 65% of marketing professionals say data fragmentation is a significant challenge in their efforts to improve customer experiences. This lack of integration can lead to missed opportunities, as crucial information about leads and customers isn’t readily accessible.

Complex Workflows

Integrating a CRM system with marketing automation tools can create complex workflows that are difficult for teams to manage. When workflows aren’t aligned across platforms, teams may struggle to ensure timely follow-ups, causing potential leads to go cold. A report by Salesforce found that 57% of sales representatives feel overwhelmed by the complexity of sales tools and workflows, leading to decreased productivity.

ClickDimensions addresses this challenge by simplifying the process of building automated workflows within Dynamics 365. With features like lead scoring, businesses can prioritise the most promising leads automatically, triggering personalised email sequences or task assignments for sales teams. By leveraging lead scoring software, sales teams can focus on qualified leads, increasing efficiency and improving conversion rates.

Lack of Unified Reporting

Another common issue with CRM and marketing tool integrations is the lack of unified reporting. When marketing tools operate independently of the CRM, tracking key performance metrics can become a disjointed process, making it difficult for businesses to measure the effectiveness of their marketing campaigns. According to research by Gartner, 70% of organisations struggle to align their marketing and sales teams because of inconsistent data reporting.

ClickDimensions resolves this by offering built-in reporting capabilities that are fully integrated with Dynamics 365. The platform provides insights into lead behaviour, such as email engagement, website visits, and form submissions, all within Dynamics. This unified reporting allows businesses to easily monitor the effectiveness of their campaigns and make data-driven decisions to optimise future efforts.

How ClickDimensions Enhances Dynamics 365 with Lead Scoring Software

Seamless Integration

Unlike many marketing automation tools that require third-party connectors, ClickDimensions is natively built into Dynamics 365. This eliminates the need for complex integrations or additional software, providing a seamless user experience. By keeping everything within a single platform, businesses can access customer data in real time, ensuring consistency across marketing and sales activities.

This deep integration enhances marketing efficiency by reducing manual data entry and the risk of errors. Moreover, businesses can leverage the power of Dynamics 365’s customer insights to create targeted and data-driven campaigns that yield higher ROI.

Enhanced Lead Scoring Software

One of the key features that ClickDimensions brings to Dynamics 365 is its robust lead-scoring capabilities. By assigning scores to leads based on their behaviour—such as email opens, website visits, and content downloads—businesses can quickly identify and prioritise high-potential leads. Research from Aberdeen Group indicates that companies using advanced lead scoring systems see a 77% increase in lead generation ROI. This highlights the value of data-driven lead prioritisation in improving sales outcomes.

ClickDimensions’ lead scoring software not only enhances sales productivity but also ensures that marketing efforts are focused on the most engaged prospects, driving higher conversion rates and more efficient use of resources.

Automated Marketing Workflows

With ClickDimensions, businesses can automate repetitive marketing tasks, such as sending follow-up emails or assigning leads to sales teams based on predefined lead scores. According to HubSpot, companies that use marketing automation to nurture prospects experience a 451% increase in qualified leads. This demonstrates how automation can significantly improve lead nurturing processes, ensuring that no opportunity is missed.

By using automated workflows in ClickDimensions, businesses can personalise their marketing at scale, delivering tailored messages to leads at the right time based on their behaviour and engagement.

Real-Time Analytics and Reporting

ClickDimensions offers robust reporting tools that provide valuable insights into campaign performance. These analytics are fully integrated with Dynamics 365, allowing businesses to track every interaction and adjust their strategies accordingly. With access to real-time data on customer engagement, businesses can continually refine their lead-scoring models and improve marketing effectiveness.

Gartner research shows that businesses that use advanced analytics are more likely to outperform their competitors by as much as 85% in sales growth. This demonstrates the critical role that integrated analytics plays in driving business success.

Fix CRM Challenges with Lead Scoring Software

Integrating CRM systems with marketing tools can be a challenging task, but ClickDimensions provides a seamless solution that enhances the Dynamics 365 experience. By addressing common challenges such as data silos, complex workflows, and fragmented reporting, ClickDimensions ensures that businesses can streamline their marketing processes and focus on the leads that matter most.

With features like lead scoring software, automated workflows, and real-time analytics, ClickDimensions empowers businesses to optimise their marketing and sales efforts, ultimately driving better results and higher ROI.

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, combined with field service tools, is designed to address these pain points, providing tailored solutions that drive efficiency and profitability.

Inefficient Scheduling and Resource Allocation

Field service success often depends on getting the right technician to the right place at the right time. Yet, manual scheduling can lead to overbooked teams, mismanaged workloads, and costly delays. Without a robust system, businesses often struggle to balance technician availability with job demands, resulting in frustrated customers and lost revenue opportunities.

How Dynamics 365 Helps:

With advanced scheduling features and AI-powered dispatching, Dynamics 365 ensures optimal resource allocation. The system intelligently matches technicians to jobs based on location, skill set, and availability, significantly reducing response times and improving operational efficiency. Additionally, real-time updates ensure that last-minute changes, such as cancellations or urgent jobs, are seamlessly managed.

Enhanced Customer Experience:

Dynamics 365 also integrates with customer communication tools to provide real-time updates about technician arrival times, ensuring transparency and building trust with clients. Proactive communication about schedule changes or delays enhances customer satisfaction and retention.

ROI Insight:

Businesses leveraging automated scheduling tools in Dynamics 365 report a 22% increase in operational efficiency (source). By reducing travel time and job overlap, companies can handle more service calls daily, increasing revenue potential. Additionally, improved technician utilisation rates can lead to a 15-20% reduction in labour costs, allowing businesses to maximise profitability while maintaining high service standards.

Case in Point:

A UK-based SMB specialising in maintenance services implemented Dynamics 365’s scheduling tools and saw a 30% improvement in on-time service delivery, enabling them to book an additional 10 service calls per week. The streamlined process not only improved their bottom line but also strengthened their reputation for reliability.

By transforming scheduling and resource management, Dynamics 365 empowers SMBs to deliver faster, more reliable field service, enhancing both operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Limited Visibility into Field Operations

A lack of real-time visibility into field operations creates significant bottlenecks for SMBs. Managers often struggle to track job progress, monitor technician performance, or promptly identify equipment issues. These blind spots can lead to delayed service delivery, higher operational costs, and dissatisfied customers. Without a clear picture of field activities, businesses risk inefficient workflows and missed opportunities for optimisation.

How Dynamics 365 Helps:

Dynamics 365 provides real-time tracking of both technicians and assets through GPS and IoT-enabled devices. Managers can instantly view job statuses, technician locations, and equipment performance, enabling them to make informed, on-the-spot decisions. The system also supports proactive problem-solving, such as rerouting technicians to high-priority jobs or flagging potential equipment failures before they disrupt service.

Enhanced Operational Insights:

The platform offers customisable dashboards and analytics tools that provide actionable insights into field performance. Managers can identify trends, optimise technician workloads, and ensure that service delivery aligns with business objectives. This transparency fosters a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

ROI Insight:

Businesses integrating IoT with Dynamics 365 report a 35% reduction in equipment downtime (Source: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics-365), ensuring technicians are well-prepared and service disruptions are minimised. Additionally, organisations leveraging real-time tracking have achieved a 20% increase in first-time fix rates, leading to fewer repeat visits and improved customer satisfaction.

Real-World Impact:

For example, a utility company using Dynamics 365 to monitor field operations reduced average service delays by 40%, translating to faster response times and significant cost savings. The ability to track technician locations in real-time also allowed them to respond to emergency calls 25% faster, strengthening customer trust and loyalty.

By addressing visibility challenges, Dynamics 365 enables SMBs to operate with greater agility and precision, reducing costs while delivering a superior customer experience.

High Costs from Manual Processes

Relying on manual processes such as job tracking, invoicing, and inventory management can drain resources and hinder efficiency. These outdated methods are not only time-consuming but also prone to human error, leading to inaccurate data, delayed billing cycles, and inflated operational costs. For SMBs operating in competitive markets, these inefficiencies can significantly impact profitability and customer satisfaction.

How Dynamics 365 Helps:

Dynamics 365 streamlines operations by automating key workflows. Tasks like creating work orders, managing inventory, and generating invoices are handled seamlessly within the platform, minimising manual intervention and reducing the risk of errors. For instance, inventory levels are updated in real-time, ensuring technicians always have the parts they need, while automated invoicing accelerates cash flow by reducing delays in billing.

Efficiency Gains Across the Board:

With integrated processes, businesses can eliminate the need for duplicate data entry and paperwork, freeing up staff to focus on higher-value activities. Automated alerts and dashboards further enhance productivity by keeping teams informed and enabling proactive decision-making.

ROI Insight:

SMBs using Dynamics 365 report up to a 20% reduction in administrative costs (Source: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics-365), resulting in substantial annual savings. Additionally, businesses that automate invoicing processes achieve up to 30% faster payment cycles, improving cash flow and financial stability. These savings allow companies to reinvest in growth initiatives, such as expanding service offerings or enhancing customer support.

Real-World Impact:

One SMB specialising in installation services reduced manual errors by 45% after adopting Dynamics 365, saving thousands of pounds annually. The time saved on administrative tasks also enabled their team to focus more on strategic projects, driving a 15% increase in customer satisfaction scores.

By automating manual processes, Dynamics 365 helps SMBs lower operational costs, improve accuracy, and allocate resources more effectively—key factors in staying competitive and scaling successfully.

Managing Rising Customer Expectations

In today’s fast-paced market, customers expect timely service, seamless communication, and personalised experiences. For SMBs without robust tools, meeting these high expectations can be challenging, often resulting in delayed responses, poor service delivery, and dissatisfied customers. These shortcomings not only harm a company’s reputation but can also lead to negative reviews and lost revenue.

How Dynamics 365 Helps:

Dynamics 365 empowers SMBs with integrated customer engagement tools that ensure proactive communication at every stage of the service journey. Automated appointment reminders keep customers informed, while real-time updates on service progress enhance transparency. Post-service follow-ups help businesses gather feedback, address concerns promptly, and foster stronger relationships. These capabilities not only improve customer satisfaction but also build long-term loyalty.

ROI Insight:

Businesses leveraging Dynamics 365’s customer engagement features report 10-15% higher retention rates (Source: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics-365). Retaining more customers boosts repeat business and lifetime customer value, directly contributing to revenue growth. Additionally, proactive communication reduces missed appointments by up to 25%, saving time and resources while enhancing operational efficiency.

Fragmented Data Across Systems

SMBs often struggle with siloed systems that create inconsistent data flows, making it difficult to generate accurate reports or make informed decisions. Fragmented systems also increase the risk of duplicate or outdated data, which can lead to operational inefficiencies and missed growth opportunities.

How Dynamics 365 Helps:

Dynamics 365 unifies data across departments, providing SMBs with a single source of truth. Seamless integration with tools like Office 365 and Power BI ensures smooth workflows and instant access to critical insights. With a centralised hub for data reporting and analysis, businesses can make faster, more accurate decisions. Moreover, customisable dashboards offer real-time visibility into key metrics, enabling SMBs to identify trends and address challenges proactively.

ROI Insight:

Adopting a unified platform like Dynamics 365 improves decision-making speed by up to 40% (Source: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics-365), allowing businesses to respond quickly to customer demands and market shifts. Additionally, streamlined data processes reduce administrative overhead, enabling SMBs to allocate more resources toward growth-oriented initiatives. Organisations with centralised systems also experience a 15% improvement in operational efficiency, paving the way for sustainable business growth.

By addressing fragmented data and rising customer expectations, Dynamics 365 equips SMBs with the tools they need to stay competitive, deliver exceptional service, and drive measurable results.

Unlocking Long-Term Benefits with Dynamics 365

By addressing these challenges, Dynamics 365 doesn’t just solve immediate pain points—it delivers long-term value:

Increased Revenue: Automation and efficiency free up resources to handle more jobs.

Reduced Costs: Fewer errors and streamlined processes lower operational expenses.

Enhanced Customer Loyalty: Proactive communication builds trust and satisfaction.

Success in Action: Real-World SMB Results

Case Study:

Olivia: Hi everyone, and good morning! Welcome to today’s exclusive webinar on Dynamics 365 Business Central Wave 2. I’m Olivia Morris, the Marketing Manager at Monpellier, and I’ll be your host today. Thank you for joining us and taking the time out of your morning.

We’re excited to walk you through some significant updates and improvements in the latest release of Business Central Wave 2, which is coming this October 2024. Features will be rolled out between October and March 2025. While not all features will be available from day one, you’ll get a sneak peek from our experts here today.

Our goal is to ensure you’re well-prepared to take full advantage of these new features and enhancements. I’m thrilled to be joined by two experts, Marnie and Luke, who will guide us through today’s session.

Introductions

Marnie is our Microsoft Business Central Software Consultant at Monpellier. Marnie, would you like to introduce yourself?

Marnie: Thanks, Olivia. Yes, I’m Marnie Christie, and I’ve been working as a Business Central software consultant for just over three years. My day-to-day work is project-focused, covering the full project lifecycle—from initial scoping, system build and configuration, to preparing clients for go-live with training and data migration. Before that, I was an end user of Nav, the previous version of Business Central, for around seven years, working in a busy finance team, similar to many of our end users.

Next, we have Luke, our expert Business Central Software Support Consultant here at Monpellier. Luke, would you like to introduce yourself?

Luke: Hi everyone, I’m Luke Dyson, a Business Central Support Consultant. I specialise in supporting customers with issues and error messages and also perform product demonstrations to introduce features to potential clients. Additionally, I provide consultancy to our current clients. I started working with Business Central back in 2015 when it was Nav 2013 R2, starting in first-line support and building my expertise since then.

Olivia: Brilliant, thanks, Luke! Today, Marnie and Luke will provide an overview of what’s new in Wave 2, and then dive into some key features. They’ll discuss Power BI reporting, co-pilot integration, and managing subscription billing and revenue, exploring how these changes will impact you, and our customers. We’ll also have a Q&A session towards the end, so feel free to drop your questions in the chat, and we’ll get to as many as we can. If we don’t have time, we’ll follow up via email after the webinar.

Business central Wave 2 Quick Summary

Let’s get started! We’re delighted to introduce Business Central Wave 2, which is packed with new features and enhancements designed to improve functionality, performance, and user experience. Now, Luke and Marnie will provide a quick overview of the Wave 2 updates, focusing on customer-facing features rather than partner updates, so you can get the most out of these improvements. Marnie, over to you!

Marnie: Thank you, Olivia. As mentioned, a quick disclaimer: some features we discussed today may not be available from day one. Microsoft’s release plans span from October to March, and some updates scheduled for early next year are already known. However, timelines may change during testing, so some features could be delayed. Today, we’re focusing on the features most likely to be available soon and those we’ve had a preview of.

As per the slide, I’ll start with the enhanced application features. This update in Wave 2 brings significant improvements to the core functionalities of Business Central. We’ll see streamlined user interfaces, making navigation more intuitive and tasks more straightforward, boosting team productivity. There are also advanced financial management tools for more precise financial reporting, better cash flow management, and improved budgeting capabilities. A major highlight is the inclusion of embedded Power BI reports, which I’ll discuss in more detail later.

We also have optimised inventory management, providing real-time visibility and advanced analytics to support more effective decision-making.

Luke: Next, I want to talk about AI innovations. Wave 2 introduces several AI-powered tools that will transform your interactions with Business Central. In particular, the co-pilot integration continues the AI revolution in a meaningful way that supports your business, with significant time-saving improvements. I’ll cover this in more detail later on.

There are enhanced data analytics, and we’ll also see improvements in automated workflows—note, that this refers to business processes, not approval workflows. The AI features, in my opinion, are among the most exciting parts of the upgrade and will be a huge help with things like number series and item attributes.

Marnie: Lastly, I’ll touch on regional expansions. Business Central now supports over 170 countries and regions, with additional localised features tailored to meet regional tax regulations and compliance standards. Multi-currency support has also been enhanced, providing better exchange rate management and automatic currency conversions. Furthermore, there are additional language packs to ensure a seamless user experience for global teams.

Luke: I’ll briefly touch on development improvements as well. While this webinar is more customer-focused, there are several enhancements to development tools that will make processes more efficient for our partners. As I mentioned earlier, the updates will make things much smoother. There’s now namespace support, allowing better management of integrations and APIs, making it easier to see and organise things more clearly. Enhanced testing environments will also make it simpler to troubleshoot and resolve development issues faster, allowing quicker transitions between testing stages and live releases. Overall, these development features will make the process faster and easier, ultimately saving you money in the long run.

Marnie: Lastly, I’ll touch on governance and administration updates. These updates may not be as visible to clients but are still important to mention, as they bring notable benefits. Significant improvements have been made to governance and administrative features, which will enhance management and compliance.

One of the key enhancements is advanced security controls, with new security features that enhance data protection and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. Additionally, user management tools have been improved, allowing for more granular control over user roles and permissions, which is often a pain point during implementation. This will make managing access and overseeing operations much more efficient.

We’ve also seen improvements in compliance monitoring, with enhanced tools for tracking and reporting compliance with both internal policies and external regulations. One specific improvement in user management is the addition of in-product notifications for issues with job queues. Many of our clients use job queues to automate background processes, such as running reports or updates at specific times.

Currently, it’s quite difficult to monitor the status of job queues, as errors don’t always appear immediately. In this release, a change in the role centre will introduce a traffic light system to monitor the status of job queues, offering a visual representation of their health. This will be a fantastic improvement for administrators managing those processes.

Olivia: Fab, thanks for that overview, both! We’re now going to move into our deep-dive section. This release focuses on several critical areas, and Marnie and Luke will cover the ones they find most interesting. In this section, we’ll be focusing on Power BI reporting, AI innovations, managing subscription billing/revenue, and co-pilot sales line/number series. I’ll now hand over to Marnie, who will talk about all things Power BI.

Power BI Wave 2 Updates

Marnie: Thank you, Olivia. As mentioned earlier, the embedded Power BI reports are one of the major highlights of this release. Many of our clients already use Power BI, while others use additional reporting tools like JET. With these embedded Power BI reports, users will be able to analyse their business data and gain insights from visual dashboards, starting from their very first month-end. This has often been a challenge in the past, so it’s great to finally address it.

Those familiar with the standard Business Central reports know they aren’t the most visually exciting. The new Power BI reports, however, will give end users a set of base reports that look more modern and visually impactful, making it easier to understand and interpret the data in Business Central. This will benefit both finance and non-finance users, especially when presenting financials to board members or others who don’t deal with finance on a daily basis.

When we help clients transition from other platforms to Business Central, reporting is often a key topic. Many clients take the opportunity to rebuild their reporting from scratch to meet their needs. These Power BI reports will be a great starting point for those clients. Additionally, clients often expect predefined reports that match the look and feel of Business Central—modern, sleek, and less traditional than older software. This new set of reports will finally allow us to meet those expectations.

As seen on the slide, the following Power BI reports will be available: 14 for finance, 12 for sales, 13 for purchasing, 7 for inventory, 11 for manufacturing, and 6 for projects. This covers all modules, and I’m particularly excited about the 11 manufacturing reports, as reporting in that area has historically been challenging. I’m thrilled to bring this forward for our clients!

Olivia: Thanks, Marnie. Yes, it’s really exciting to discuss Power BI reporting, especially for our manufacturing customers. Now, I’ll hand over to Luke, who will be discussing AI innovations. Over to you, Luke!

AI Innovations Business Central Wave 2

Luke: Thanks, Olivia. One of the most interesting features related to AI and co-pilot involves creating item variants, which is incredibly helpful. For example, if you have a product like a black chair and want to create variants in other colours—red, yellow, green, etc.—the traditionally tedious task of creating item variants can now be significantly shortened by the use of Copilot.

So often, there’s a situation where someone has, say, 40 different variants of an item, and inevitably, one or two setups might be missed. It won’t necessarily be uniform—you might miss a unit of measure, for instance, and then have to go back and fix it. With Copilot, however, you can simply copy the item variants, which is a great feature. Another feature related to items is the ability to suggest different dimensions. For example, if you’ve got units of measure like pallets, or dimensions such as height and weight—which are useful for airfreight or shipping by sea, where weight and dimensions are critical for fitting items into containers—AI can assist by suggesting those dimensions and attributes in the system.

In terms of analysis, as shown in the screenshot with the variants, this will become more reliable with Release Wave 1. There will be fewer errors, and it will reduce what we call AI “hallucinations,” where it suggests random information. I remember asking a basic question, “What’s the coldest place on the planet?” and the AI started talking about bananas! So yes, AI hallucinations do happen. But with Release Wave 2, it’s going to be far more reliable.

Olivia: Brilliant, thanks for that, Luke. Yes, AI is certainly one of the most interesting parts of Wave 2 at the moment. It’s not just a gimmick—it saves time, resources, and, as Luke said, takes care of the boring stuff. So now, I’ll hand back over to Marnie, who’s going to discuss managing subscription billing and revenue with you all.

Managing Subscription Billing and Revenue

Marnie: Thank you, Olivia. Yes, the next topic I’d like to introduce is something I know will be welcomed by existing BC customers. It’s also finally great to be able to tell potential BC customers that this is now available. Over the years, this functionality gap in BC has been a bit of a pain to manage manually, so the new feature allowing businesses to manage subscription billing and revenue recognition by creating subscription contracts in Business Central is a big step forward.

The system offers a simple process to manage portfolios of items and services that are billed on a recurring schedule. For example, it could be IT support, cleaning, or maintenance contracts. You can even combine the sale of services and items into a mixed subscription contract that holds information about items, services, and the billing schedule. This is a major improvement on what we’ve had in the past.

Templates will also simplify creating subscription contracts by standardising parameters and schedules for recurring billing. For example, with a maintenance contract, you might use some stock items and also have a person attend on-site, and the system will know this is a monthly recurring cost. So, you won’t have to manually track whether invoices have gone out or check your revenue.

Another benefit is the ability to manage current pricing and plan for future price updates, meaning the system will automatically handle these changes. For finance teams, posting accruals to the balance sheet is automated, and revenue or expense is assigned to the correct period in the income statement. As shown on the screen, the new tiles appearing on the role centre are a great help for project managers and management accountants. The visual impact alone makes it easier to understand your current position. This is a huge step forward, and we’re excited to offer it to our clients.

Olivia: Thanks, Marnie. Now, for the final deep dive, Luke will talk once more about Copilot and AI. Over to you, Luke.

Copilot Sales

Have you ever had a sales order with about 40 lines and wished you could speed up the process of filling in all the fields? Well, with Release Wave 2, Copilot is designed to speed up this process using the “Get Line Suggestions” feature. As you can see in the example, it can suggest various items and quantities, and even fill in fields like units of measure—such as shipping items on pallets. This will make sales processing much easier.

Another cool feature is related to Number Series, which is one of those essential but tedious tasks. You need to set up number series to create documents, but sometimes they get overlooked, or you end up using the default Cronus number series and run out. The new features make it easier to create and manage your own number series, and Copilot will automatically add them to the relevant setups.

In the past, customers have created number series only to find they’re not working or not populating numbers correctly because they missed something in the setup. With Copilot’s suggestions, you can create your own series, and it will handle the rest in the background, making sure everything is configured correctly. I think this is a really neat improvement in the next update, and I’m looking forward to seeing it in action.

Olivia: Brilliant, thanks for that, Luke. Now, we have a couple of questions. If we don’t get to them all, we’ll send detailed answers via email after the webinar.

Q&A Section

Olivia: The first question is for Luke: “Can you explain how the new AI-powered Copilot feature works in practice? Specifically, how does it integrate with existing workflows, and what kind of tasks can it automate?”

Luke: Well, I should start by saying this is a webinar, not a technical course. But essentially, Copilot in BC uses machine learning algorithms to provide intelligent assistance within the application. It’s important to note that no customer data is used to train these algorithms—this is often a concern these days, but Microsoft ensures that customer data is protected.

Copilot is deeply integrated into BC, providing recommendations such as “Get Line Suggestions” and supporting users as they navigate various modules both before and after go-live. For example, in inventory, it can suggest optimal stock levels based on trends in vendor ledger entries, helping manage stock coming in and going out.

In addition to handling the repetitive, boring tasks like data entry, item variants, and number series, Copilot can also assist with report generation and decision-making. For instance, it can automatically generate financial forecasts or suggest stock replenishments based on analytics.

It really enhances the user experience by making BC easier to work with and less stressful to manage. Compared to legacy systems, I believe those are far behind in terms of AI integration. Microsoft is leading the way, ensuring that AI is a helpful companion in streamlining workflows and improving decision-making.

Using the analysis of historical data, you can look at various things like customer ledger entries, for example. I don’t know if any of you have heard of some third-party software called JetReports. To be honest, I think it’s starting to catch up to tools like JetReports in terms of the analysis it can perform, the reliability it offers, and the information it provides. You could use it to analyse your customers, such as identifying your most valuable customer.

Sales teams may also find it useful for understanding good months and bad months—good trends, bad trends, and so on. I’m really looking forward to it—it’s very exciting. Brilliant, thanks. I really like how you described it as a ‘companion’. I think that’s a great way of putting it. I’m definitely going to steal that for my next social post.

Olivia: Our next question looks like it’s for Marnie, and it’s about Power BI. The question is: “Regarding the enhanced reporting and Power BI integration, what are some of the most notable new customisation options available, and how can these improvements help in creating more detailed and actionable reports?”

Marnie: Well, the enhancements to reporting and Power BI integration in this release offer several customisation options. We’re going to have customisable reporting templates, allowing users to create templates that meet specific business needs. Yes, you’ll start with a base, but of course, they can be amended as required. Reporting is rarely one-size-fits-all; it’s specific to each business, so it’s important to know this flexibility is available.

One thing we’ll need to explore further as this release comes out is the licensing aspect—particularly how much integration with Power BI is included with a standard BC licence, versus whether an enhanced Power BI licence will be required. The templates themselves allow for flexible layout adjustments, dynamic data filters, and custom calculations. It’s similar to building a Power BI report from scratch, enabling users to generate reports that reflect their unique requirements. Teams within a business often want different things from reports, so this flexibility will be very useful.

We also have advanced data visualisation with the Power BI integration. The significant improvement here is the ability to provide advanced data visualisation. Dashboards—this is what people want these days. They want the ability to see their performance, not just in an Excel spreadsheet or a long list of numbers. Users will be able to create interactive dashboards and detailed charts that offer deeper insights into business performance, which is key. This will also help highlight key trends and any anomalies, making it easier to analyse complex datasets.

For teams working across different modules within the system, this will be particularly beneficial. Finally, we have enhanced data connectivity. The updated integration improves the connectivity between Business Central and Power BI, allowing users to pull in data from various sources, not just from BC. This means users can combine external data with Business Central data and create more comprehensive reports that are suitable for board members, offering an overall view of the business.

The seamless data flow will ensure reports are always up to date, which is something we love, and they will reflect the most current business information. Real-time information has been a sticking point for a lot of people, and this will definitely address that issue.

Olivia: Thanks, Marnie. I see we’ve had another question from Susan. We’ll answer that after the webinar via email or something similar, but thank you for sending it through.

The Conclusion

Olivia: So, thank you both. That brings us to the end of our webinar. To recap, we’ve covered key features and enhancements in Wave 2, specifically around Power BI, Copilot, and managing subscription billing, while addressing some of your questions.

We’ll send you some additional information after the webinar, including our white paper, which you can download here or wait for via email. We’ll also send a recording of this webinar, a transcript, and some resources on the Wave 2 updates.

If you have any further questions or need support, feel free to contact us anytime. Our details are on the screen, and we’re here to help you make the most of these features and your Business Central application. Chat or call us whenever you want.

Thanks again for attending, everyone, and thanks to Marnie and Luke for sharing their expert knowledge and brilliant insights throughout this webinar. Have a great day, everyone. Goodbye.
